FINAL EXAM

Project Portion
You have about 2 hours to complete a project with your favorite program(s) that we used during this course.
Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Painter, Sculptris
This should represent one of the following themes:
 life goals/ambitions
anxieties/fears
personal heroes
personal values/morals
your culture

Work will be evaluated based on use of compositional rules, color theory, technical proficiency with software tools, and the degree to which the project conveys the chosen theme.

Reflection Portion
What theme did you chose to address in your final project and why?

Regarding your favorite project:
Why did it turn out well/why was this your favorite project?
What might you do differently next time.

What was your least favorite project?
What was most difficult about it? What did you dislike about it?

Both portions must be completed and posted to your blog by 12:15

E2 Kinetic Text and Final Cut

Here is a great example of a Kinetic Text piece:

This example was done by a student last year... it was a very ambitious undertaking:

Requirements:

  • 30 - 60 seconds long
  • Animation
  • Images imported with transparent backgrounds (cut out in photoshop tutorial below)
  • Accurate timing - broken up appropriately - Don't time whole sentences at once. Time by word.

Use this site to download videos/music from youtube. Copy and paste the youtube url into the textbox, select MP4 for videos, and then click convert. Then wait for 60 seconds and your video will start to download to your "downloads" folder.
Click here for the website you need to download video from youtube.

This video will show you some final cut basics for animating text:

This tutorial is to show you how to properly work with images that contain transparency within Final Cut Pro X:

C1 Corel Practice Painting

Here is a short tutorial for painting an apple in Corel Painter 12. If you have little to no drawing or painting experience that is okay. If you are more advanced with drawing and painting you will be able to really flex your strength in the following project. Watch the tutorial- the apple image is included below the video.

The tutorial is two parts, the first part is somewhat long, but really shows a lot of little techniques. The second part is really short and just shows the finished product:

B6 Design Dream Job

Sometimes as a graphic artist you may need to create images that are simply to pay your bills; still a really fun job! For this project imagine that you are a super hot shot graphic designer and you have just landed a contract to create a skateboard deck design for an awesome skate company, OR a concert gig poster for your favorite musical artist/band. Projects must be created in illustrator, though you can use reference images from the internet. Do not copy an existing design for a deck or poster. You must combine multiple images to create your project: don't just trace one image. Remember compositional rules! Both projects should include use of the gradient tool. Here is a new tutorial on how to use the gradient tool:

Requirements for both:
Trace or draw with the pen tool at least 3 different images into your project that are fairly complicated.
Include a clear focal point - follow rules of composition.

Here is a link to the composition PowerPoint: Click Here

Here is a link to a "Design IQ" test: Click Here

Gig posters should be 11" x 17"
Gig posters should include informational text:

  • Name of Band
  • Date/Time of Event
  • Venue
  • Cost

The template for the skateboard is on the network drive.
